Kerala largest hanging bridge - Inchathotty Suspension Bridge

Inchathotty Suspension Bridge is located  near Neriamangalam, Thattekad and Kothamangalam in Ernakulam District in Kerala, India. The hanging bridge was built as a walkway connecting Charupara in Keerampara panchayat with Inchathotty in Kuttampuzha panchayat.  It is famous for its hanging bridge which is considered as the longest suspension bridge in Kerala. The bridge, which is 185m long and 4ft broad and which hangs 200m above the Periyar River, was designed and constructed by the Kerala Electrical and Engineering Company Limited (KEL), a public sector undertaking owned by the Kerala Government. The view from the bridge is amazing. A walk through the suspension bridge will definitely give you a great experience.

It is a favorite destination of tourists from even distant places.  It takes one hour from Bhoothathankettu by boat to reach the hanging bridge. There is a boat jetty below the bridge where a boat can be docked and tourists are permitted to climb the hanging bridge. It is an amazing experience to be on the suspension bridge that shakes with a mixed feeling of a little fear and excitement. Photographs taken from the bridge provide an excellent aerial view of the Thattekad bird sanctuary. 



Kayaking in Periyar waters while enjoying the beauty of the countryside is an exciting proposition. You can go on a kayaking spree alone or with friends, and a guide in a kayaking canoe will guide the kayakers through the water.  Some canoes can accommodate up to 30 people and the kayaking charge is Rs 100 per person. All safety precautions including life jackets are followed while kayaking through the Periyar river. 



It can even be reached by road, which is 5 km from Bhoothathankettu,60 km from Munnar hill station. And 70 km from Kochi. 

Morning or late evening time is the best.Try to avoid hot midday sun. weekends and public holidays make this place busy.
