Bugle Rock (Kahale Bande) is a massive rock in the Basavanagudi area of south Bangalore in the state of Karnataka. The main rock formation is an abrupt rise above the ground of peninsular gneiss, estimated to be about 3,000 million years old. Developed by the Horticulture Department of the Government of Karnataka, the densely wooded park is considered a "walker's paradise" as 750 to 1000 visitors visit the park every day.
Bangalore's feudal ruler Kempe Gowda II (came to power in 1585) is credited with building four watch towers to limit Bangalore's expansion, which included a tower on the Bugle Rock (on the southern boundary) as it commands a panoramic view of Bangalore city. Most of the rocks at Bugle Rock, adjacent to the Bull Temple, have hollows that were once used to light lamps. This landmark is spread over an area of 16 acres (6.5 hectares). Lalbagh Tower.
The park houses three temples. The Hindu temple Dodda Basavana Gudi or Bull Temple, said to be the biggest temple to Nandi in the world, and a Ganesha temple are in the limits of the park. A small park with waterfalls and fountains has developed into one of the green lungs of the garden city of Bangalore, which is frequented by children, families and the elderly among the rock formations. You can also hear the calls of many bats in the trees. A 300-seat amphitheater has been developed in the vicinity of the park.
In a study by bat biologists at Bugle Rock Park, fruit bats (Pteropus giganteus) (also known as the Indian flying-fox, listed on the 2006 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species by the Chiroptera Specialist Group in 1996) were found on trees (Ficus sp., Mangifera indica (mango fruit tree), Samania Saman (rain tree), Eucalyptus sp., Glacindia sp.), and gulmohar (Delonyx regia) and jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) have also been recorded in gardens, groves and protected areas of size 650-710. About 20-25 and generally 30-40 Feet (9.1–12.2 m) tall tall trees occupy the center of the park and are 50–60 years old.The area is maintained by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).
The Geological Survey of India has listed this site, one of the 26 such sites in the country, as "Geological Monuments of India" and has displayed a commemorative plaque in front of the rock tower which states.
On the outer wall of an old water tank within the confines of Bugle Rock Park are murals of famous people from Bangalore and Karnataka: Kempe Gowda I (1513–1569), Bangalore ruler and Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraiah (1860–1962), engineer statesman and builder of modern Karnataka, DV Gundappa known as DVG. (1887-1975) behind the statue, erected in 2002-03 to honor the Kannada writer and philosopher.
The park has been named in honour of T.R. Shamanna, a humanitarian and local politician. It is beautified by landscaping with rocky steps. An attractive entrance has been made with stone pillars and murals with figures of figures carved on the disused outer wall of the water tank.
