Man Made Marvel in Dubai - The World Island

One of the top recent attractions in Dubai is The World Islands. Here you can find a group of man-made islands in the shape of a world map. There are many hotels and restaurants in the world islands which are luxurious and definitely not to be missed. World Island Dubai, also known as "The World", is an artificial archipelago project located off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The World's developer is Nakheel Properties, and the project was originally conceived by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. World Islands is made primarily of sand dredged from Dubai's shallow coastal waters and is one of Dubai's many artificial island developments.

The construction was done by two Dutch (joint venture) specialist companies, Van Oord and Boskalis. The same companies also created the Palm Jumeirah. Nakheel announced the development to the world in May 2003. It originally had 200 islands and an area of 5,600,000 square meters. The construction of the group of 300 islands began in the year 2003 but had to be put on hold in the year 2008 due to some financial issues. As of today, there are only around 2 to 3 of Dubai the world islands that are completely functional and open to commercial use, and there has been news that due to the improper foundation, the islands may be sinking back into the water.

World Islands is a place you must visit. The whole concept started as a real estate opportunity and later became one of the best tourist attractions in the city. If you plan to visit Dubai, book a window seat and see this man-made wonder as you descend on the city. World Island seemed like a distant dream but became a reality after 10 years of hard struggles and roadblocks.

You can book a day tour to the Dubai World Islands, either online, or at any of the tour agencies in Dubai. The tour packages include a visit to the Lebanon island, one of the only commercial islands of the island group, and includes access to the beaches and hotels of the island. You can spend time frolicking on the beach or enjoy indoor and outdoor dining, indulge in water sports activities and laze around the pool all day long.

World Islands Dubai opens its doors to a wider audience, inviting them to experience a piece of heaven on earth.
