Panchalimedu 

Panchalimedu is a tourist destination located in Idukki district in the state of Kerala. panchalimedu is located at an elevation of 2500 Ft above sea level. The place is famous for its towering mountains, the mist, the cold and the wind. Panchalimedu is a good hill station to visit with your family. The tranquility, coolness and natural beauty of the place is a special experience for the visitors.

Panchalimedu is located at a distance of about 4 km from Murinjapuzha on the Kottayam- kumily road. Coming from Kottayam, you can also reach here via Mundakayam Thekkemala. Panchalimedu is located at a distance of about 15 km from Mundakayam.

The Makaravilakku seen at ponnambalamedu can be clearly seen from panchalimedu. Thousands of people come here to see the makaravilakku. It is believed that the pancha Pandavas lived in panchalimedu during their exile. There is also an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Bhuvaneshwari. Compared to other hill stations in Idukki district this place is easily accessible from the top of the hills. There is a road to the bald hills. The remaining half a kilometre is a single track.

There are two hills here. One has e Crucifixion, the other a temple of goddess Bhuvaneswari and a broken Shivalingam.  The sunrise and  sunset views from here  is a good view. This is a great place to go for trekking enthusiasts. The majestic mountains, the mist that cools  the travellers from the Sun and the heat, and the scenic beauty of the place attract tourists.

As we climb the hills, we can see beautiful views. when you see those views, the tiredness of climbing the mountain will change. Valanjamkanam waterfall is located close to panchalimedu. Moreover, Parunthumpara is located a short distance away.

Tribal people have been living here for thousands of years. It is believed that the pancha Pandavas, came here with panchali  during their exile and lived here for some time. There is a pond called panchali pond and a cave called Pandava cave to testify to that beliefs. It is believed that the Bhuvaneshwari temple in panchalimedu was gifted to the tribal people by the Pandavas out of admiration for their Aditya manners. This is the reason why panchalimedu has changed not only as a tourist destination but also as a place full of history and faith.

Traveling here during thunderstorms. Panchalimedu is one of the areas most prone to sudden thunderstorms. So coming here when there is thunder invites danger. There is an entrance fee to enter panchalimedu.
